Subjects in OpenDOAR - Worldwide

OpenDOAR - 15-Nov-2018

Most large institutions effectively hold all subjects in their repositories. They are therefore categorised as 'Multidisciplinary' in OpenDOAR. On the other hand, specialist institutions (e.g. engineering and agricultural colleges) and disciplinary repositories only cover a few subjects, and these have been indexed individually.

This is not an entirely satisfactory situation, because we would like to be able to indicate each institution's strong subjects. We are currently investigating how this could be improved - possibly using OAI-PMH subject-based or department-based sets. Meanwhile, we recommend that harvesters look at 'Multidisciplinary' repositories as well as the specific subjects that are of interest to them.
